The beach

Playa La Concha.

100 metres from Casa Sol y Playa. A calm, quiet residential beach with no development, no hire loungers, and mostly local visitors.

Playa La Concha, Playa Honda — calm sandy beach with clear water and residential buildings along the promenade

Playa La Concha is a modest sandy beach in the residential town of Playa Honda, on the east coast of Lanzarote. It faces south-east, protected from the strongest Atlantic swells by the natural geography of the coast. The water is typically calm — good for swimming, paddling, and sitting in the shallows.

Unlike the resort beaches further south in Puerto del Carmen or Playa Blanca, there's no commercial infrastructure here. No hire loungers. No beach bar. No parasols for rent. Just a beach — which is exactly what some guests prefer.

The sand is dark and coarse — typical of volcanic Lanzarote. The beach isn't expansive, but it's rarely crowded. You'll share it mostly with local residents, especially on weekday mornings. Weekend afternoons in summer are the busiest.

Swimming

The water at Playa La Concha is generally calm and safe for swimming. The sea floor is mostly sand with some rocks near the edges. Water shoes are useful but not essential. There is no lifeguard service — as is typical for residential beaches across Spain.

Sea temperature ranges from around 19°C in winter to 23°C in October. Most guests find it swimmable from May through November. In January and February it's cool — wetsuits are worn by regular swimmers.

What to bring

  • Towels — not provided at the apartment
  • Sunscreen — strong UV even in winter
  • Water shoes — useful but not essential
  • Snorkelling gear — worth it if you have it, some fish and rock formations
  • Water and snacks — no beach bar

The promenade

The promenade (paseo marítimo) runs alongside Playa La Concha and extends north towards Arrecife (45 min walk) and south along the coast. It's flat, wide, and shaded in parts. Good for early morning walks, cycling, or running.

There are benches, outdoor showers, and a small children's playground at the southern end of the promenade. The nearest café is inside the Deiland Shopping Centre, about 5 minutes on foot. There are also bars and restaurants along the promenade in the direction of the airport, all within 5 minutes on foot.
