Food & drink

Where to eat.

Playa Honda isn't a restaurant destination — but it has a few solid options. For serious dining, Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen are both close.

In Playa Honda

All of these are within walking distance of Casa Sol y Playa.

La Opera

Spanish

Playa Honda

One of the most popular spots in Playa Honda. Good Spanish and international food, friendly staff, and a loyal local following. Popular with expats as well as locals — it gets busy, especially at weekends.

Book ahead on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Restaurante El Ancla

Seafood

Playa Honda

A straightforward fish and seafood restaurant near the waterfront. Fresh fish, honest prices, no fuss. The kind of place locals eat at regularly.

Go for the catch of the day.

Bar La Lonja

Tapas / Bar

Playa Honda

A classic local bar with tapas and cold beer. Good for a quick lunch, afternoon snack, or watching football.

Cheap and cheerful. Good value for tapas.

A short drive away

For more variety, these are all worth the short journey.

Arrecife city centre

Mixed

5 km north

The island capital has a proper restaurant scene — Spanish, Canarian, international. The port area has a good selection of seafood restaurants. Worth the short drive or a walk along the promenade.

Combine with a visit to Arrecife old town and the Castillo de San Gabriel.

Puerto del Carmen dining strip

International

10 km south

If you want a wide choice — international cuisine, quality seafood, good cocktail bars — Puerto del Carmen's Avenida de las Playas has dozens of options. More tourist-oriented but genuinely good restaurants are there if you look.

Avoid the most touristy-looking menus. Look for restaurants with Spanish on the boards.

El Diablo, Timanfaya

Canarian

35 km west

The restaurant inside Timanfaya National Park. Food is cooked directly over geothermal heat — a gimmick, but an impressive one. The setting is unlike anywhere else on earth.

Book ahead — it's popular and only seats a limited number.

Self-catering made easy

The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen — cooker, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer. The HiperDino supermarket inside Deiland Shopping Centre is 5 minutes on foot, with a good selection of local produce, wine, and groceries. Many guests prefer to cook most evenings and eat out two or three times during their stay.
